Established in 1998, Lorena’s Flower Shop grew from the entrepreneurial dream of my grandmother, Lorena Boshenkas. Lorena cultivated a life-long love of gardening since the very time she sprouted a green bean seed in kindergarten class.
A natural green thumb, she was the one speaking soft words of encouragement to her crop of shy strawberries in their 4×4 patch; lovingly coaxing withered house plants back to life, and fashioning eclectic bouquets from a mix of home-cultivated and wildflowers.
She could often be found in the family’s urban vegetable garden… a small plot of soil framed by concrete which she filled with beautiful vegatables to feed the family, and colorful flowers to decorate table tops and window sills with a happy pop of color and fresh scent.
Today, my grandma’s vision thrives on, with the next generation of family growers tending the fruits of her labor of love.
